Poker Host Review
|
Poker Host
was launched in 2004 and since 2010 has become part of the Merge Gaming Network.
The move benefited both the network and the site maintaining their dedication to
American players. |
|
Poker Host
offers a good sign up bonus with a respectable number of
players to challenge you when earning the required loyalty points.
Their network move now sees them hosting Texas Hold’em, Omaha (Hi/Lo)
and 7 Card Stud (Hi/Lo) games in appropriate betting formats, with
deep stack, turbo, re-buy/add-on options, as well as guaranteed and
regular freezeout tournaments.
|
 |
Network traffic is good with over 3,000 cash table players during
peak hours. The site and network look set to grow at a steady rate.
The support is informative and useful; a recent issue I had with
them was resolved with a ten minute chat to their live help.
From the lobby
The stylish lobby immediately feels familiar with software that has always
been reliable and solid. Some of the nice features include a buddy search
and player tagging, as well as a seasonal choice of smileys which add some
fun expressions to the table play.
Two main tabs give quick access to the lobby and cashier
windows, four more tabs divide the cash tables, tournaments,
side games and a regularly updated news section.
Preferences for game selection are made in the cash table and
tournament lobbies by game type, which may be sorted into buy-in
levels and betting limits etc. Making use of the filter facility
will speed players to their ideal seats.
Sit and Go tournaments
A proportion of the sit and go action is dedicated to network's Fun Step
program, where players can win cash prizes from play money games; however
plenty of action is also found on the low to medium level buy-in games too.
Those wanting to play higher buy-in sit and go tournaments will usually
find the games beginning fastest in the heads up format. |

 |
Scheduled tournaments
The scheduled tournaments are best attended in the low to medium
buy-in ranges. Typically for tournaments under a $5 buy-in it is
common to see between 50 and 200 players entering a mix of games
including bounty, turbo, R/A and guaranteed events.
Higher buy-in tournaments up to $60 often have up to 100 players
attending.
Daily freerolls bring a fresh mix of players to the site.
Ring games
A good cross section of players are found at all the low to medium
level Texas Hold’em cash tables; the higher stake tables are less
well attended but there is usually some action to be found.
Atypical ring games such as Badugi, HORSE, and Stud etc often
struggle for players during the off peak hours, but can be busy if
you pick your play times.
At the table
The table graphics
have a classy feel with an easy to follow layout. Clear action buttons
allow players to place bets at pre-set amounts, they may also use the
slider to increase bets, or may enter any bet amount in a text window
(provided limits allow).
Play options can be altered at individual tables or globally from
the lobby. Simple multi-screen options including re-sizeable tables
make multi-tabling easy. It makes sense to use the four color
decks option when the going gets hectic.
Common check boxes allow players to sit out, fold to any bet and
auto-post their blinds. In-play check boxes give players the
opportunity to pre-set a betting action if they make an early
decision.
An information area gives brief player and tournament statistics.
You can keep notes on other players by clicking on their avatar
and adding your considerations, or quickly tag an opponent with
discrete icons to help you recognize their play style when you
meet them at a later time.
Bonuses
Poker Host offer a 200% Deposit Bonus up to $2,000 and an Initial
Depositor Freeroll entry coupon this is given to each player as
soon as they make their initial deposit. |
