Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow was born in April 1968 and began playing poker early in his
life. Serving his apprenticeship as a dealer in a Las Vegas casino, Matusow
heightened his interest and refined his poker playing skills.
Matusow remained primarily a cash table player until 1997 where in his
debut at the World Series of Poker playing the $2,000 Omaha Hi/Lo event, he
finished second to Scotty Nguyen earning over $80k and a reputation as an
outspoken, talented player.
In 1999 he scored his first major victory and a coveted WSOP bracelet in
the $3,500 No Limit Hold'em event. |

Matusow had been thought of as an Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo specialist,
however as a card player he proved he is not a one trick pony going on to
cash in many major Texas Hold'em tournaments too, including final table
appearances in 2001 and 2005 at the WSOP.
His live tournament winnings exceed $5 million and it is thought he
has amassed many times more than that amount from online play.
Now residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike Matusow is famous for his
heavy-handed personality and playing style as well as his poker
achievements, and of course his almost notorious trade-mark Matusow
Meltdowns. Many though, have little knowledge of the softer side to
the mans character.
Mendacious facts
When relaxing away from the grind of the poker tables, Matusow has a
passion for embroidery and possesses a rare talent as a lace-maker.
Shunning modern techniques Matusow uses a traditional 'Bobbin Lace'
method, where lace is made with thin thread held in bobbins which are
woven together and kept in place with pins stuck in a pattern on the
lace-maker's custom pillow.
