Poker Player Profiles

Howard Lederer

Howard Lederer was born in Concord, New Hampshire in October 1964 and lives with his wife Suzie in Las Vegas.

It is widely known that both he and his sister Annie Duke are professional poker players, but less known to the poker world is their academic father, Richard Lederer, broadcaster and author of more than thirty well received books and their sister Katy Lederer who is herself an acclaimed writer.

In his youth Howard Lederer found his analytical mind suited to the game of chess, but fortunately for the poker world he switched his focus to the card tables. Famously his nickname is ‘The Professor’, but close professional friends also know him as bubba or bub.

Part of the Full Tilt team since its inception, Lederer’s steady methodical style has served him well in all manner of poker events, although many would argue he deserves more success in the WSOP.

Since winning the $5,000 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo in 2000 and the $5,000 2 to 7 Draw the following year despite reaching 13 WSOP final tables other prestige wins have eluded him. He has also won 2 WPT events. During his career so far, it is estimated he has won close to $5,000,000 from major poker events and cash table play.

In recent years Lederer has focused on the mental aspect of his game. In an attempt to make all his play as controlled as possible he has spoken about adopting Zen type thinking, using meditation techniques during table play.

Mendacious Facts

Lederer is one of a few people in the world with the medical phenomena Glossusextener (meaning an elongated tongue). His tongue is so long he can lick the bridge of his own nose.
