Williams burst into the main poker consciousness when in 2004 he won
$3.5 Million for his runner up place in the WSOP main event. This
was quickly followed by netting another $573,000 for his runner up finish
at a WPT event.
Williams's won his buy-in to the 2004 WSOP from an online poker satellite.
Though mainly self taught, he was taken under the wing of Marcel Lüske on
his way to the final stages of the main event.
In March 2006, Williams recorded two further WPT final tables,
finishing 4th on both occasions. Williams won a WSOP bracelet in 2006
in the $1,500 7 Card Stud event.
His mother Shirley Williams gained her own celebrity as David's main
cheerleader in the 2004 WSOP and since then has tested her own talents
when competing in the 2006 WSOP main event. In that year she outlasted
her son and also cashed in the 2007 WSOP main event finishing a
creditable 465th.
