Useful for those quiet times when you are deep into a poker
tournament and are waiting for the bubble to burst, guaranteeing
that you can eat next week. Why not hum any of these songs to
chivvy yourself along and annoy the hell out of the others at the
table. |

I heard that Bob Marley after
needing a Queen to stay alive in a heads up, ultimately missed, then wrote:
"No woman no cry, no woman no cry." |
Pete Townsend got suckered into
folding his pocket Kings and composed:
"Won't get fooled again." |
|
| |
When famous diva Eva Cassidy
fell victim to those chasing in a low limit game, she would sing, "Take me
to the river." |
| Actress and singer Julie London
memorably chorused, "Cry me A river," after busting out yet again chasing with
her four flush. |
|
| |
I heard that Marilyn Monroe used
to go to the White House for a regular poker game.
Whenever she hit a diamond flush she's break into a rendition of, "Diamonds are
a girls best friend."
It didn't help as she was knocked out by Darnell Miller in February
1959 with his "Royal Flush." |
| Everyone knows Lemmy from
Motorhead needed just one card to complete his royal... the "Ace of spades." |

I usually end up singing some
oldies by the Rolling Stones:
When I'm all-in for my tourney life for the third hand in a row: "19th
nervous breakdown."
In the confusion of the showdown in a multi-pot playing Omaha Hi/Lo:
"Anyway you look at it."
When the flop teases and I feel lucky: "I know it's only runner
runner (but I like it)."
and... "I can't get no satisfaction" comes at the end of most
tourneys. |
In the Spencer Davis Group SnG ~
Steve Windwood pleaded, "Somebody help me."
Then in the next hand coming from behind called, "Keep on running." |
|
| |
Elton John was playing a cash
table, showed AA and broke into "Rocket man." |
Freddie Mercury after a series of
really bad beats launched into:
"Chippin' around - kick my brains around the floor
These are the days it never rains but it pours."
He must have felt under pressure to get that one in... |
|
| |
John Lennon stole a peek at Paul
McCartney's up and down straight draw and said:
"I wanna hold your ha-a-a-a-a-and, I wanna hold your hand." |
Diana Ross was getting testy at
the slow pace of the game being played, so vented her spleen saying:
"Flop, in the name of love."
Then when a full house looked likely to beat her flush added:
"Before you break my hearts" |
|
| |
Gloria Gaynor checked her pocket
cards with the board and decided, "I will survive." |
When Roland Orzabal played Phil
Hellmuth, Roland hit trip 3's on the river, Hellmuths anguish ridden words
were immortalized in the song....
"SHOUT, SHOUT, LET IT ALL OUT
THESE ARE THE THINGS I CAN DO WITHOUT
COME ON, I'M TALKING TO YOU, COME ON." |
|
| |
Bob Dylan, post flop faced 2 over
cards to his pocket Queens and was heard muttering, "Lay, lady lay..." |
Benny whips Bjorn in the Abba
heads up free-roll and together they compose:
"The winner takes it all."
Gosh my street cred' is zero, admitting to knowing an Abba song |

Okay... stay with me on this; it
could take a while but it'll be worth it.
Frank Sinatra had pocket Queens and bet large. Dean Martin flat called.
The flop was J T 2 rainbow. Both checked.
Turn card was 5. Both checked.
River card Q.
Sinatra went all in, thinking his trip Queens were good.
Martin pondered (for dramatic effect), then called.
Sinatra launched into, "Ol' man river" showing his three of a kind, but
was dismayed when Dean Martin came back with "Ain't that a kick in the head,"
turning over A K suited.
I got there in the end. |
Few of my choices for poker songs have anything to do with poker, but all the
songs can just about be welded into a poker context. If you have anymore
poker songs to offer, please contact me
here and I'll include them on the list. |
