Autolycus - The Prince of Thieves
Autolycus comes from good stock in the world of poker gods, his father
Hermes was skilful in theft and trickery; but it was with a strong
willingness to plunder, purloin and pilfer that Autolycus made theft
into an art form.
Included within his bestowed gift of thievery, was that he would never
be caught in the act; he could steal the knickers from a nymph and she’d
never know it.
Autolycus knew that a larcenous lifestyle would be most profitable if he
avoided arrest for possession of stolen goods.

Instead of covering his tracks, Autolycus learned to cover his prizes
with the power to change the shape of whatever he stole into another
form and could make it, and himself, invisible.
He would disguise white objects as black and black objects as white,
horned animals as hornless and hornless as horned, thereby deflecting
attention away from his ill-gotten gains.
Some say he stole a whole herd of cattle from under the nose of
Sisyphus, the cunning king of Corinth (try saying that after a few
beers) and made them invisible. Others suggest that Sisyphus had
branded the cattle on the base of the hooves, and although the cattle
had a changed appearance, Autolycus was undone by the proof on the
hoof. Next time I’m at a poker table with him I’ll ask.
So here’s the thing; Autolycus does not endorse poker players stealing
chips from another’s stack by any foul means. However, if you are raising
the blinds from the button with 7-2 off-suit representing them as pocket
Aces; Autolycus prince of thieves, may listen to your prayers.
