Apuleius - The Donkey God
Some poker players readying themselves for a game, must surely pray to the
poker god Apuleius.
Apuleius AKA Apuleius Apuleius, (so good they named him twice) was born circa
124 AD in Madauros, Numidia. His death was recorded at the aged of 56 in Carthage.
In ancient Rome this poker god was know as the Golden Ass.
Apuleius suffered the misfortune of being transformed into a donkey after rubbing
himself down with a witch's ointment. A modern day equivalent would be a mixture
of lager and kebab grease.
The poker god Apuleius survived the trials and torments of life as a donkey for
several years, later to be transformed back into a man; at which point he (for
reasons unknown) becomes a chaste and virtuous devotee of Isis, and is celebrated
by some as a god.
If this man can be transformed into a donkey and return to his former state with
a renewed purpose in life, then there is hope for us all. I don't suppose a donkey
poker player (even if they are god of donkey poker) will be given the same respect
as this lucky fellow.
Apuleius is the god of poker donkeys. |
