Adrasteia - The Goddess of Divine Retribution

Adrasteia (also known as Nemesis) is one of several gods and goddesses concerned with justice; the list includes Dike, Dike’s mother Titaness Themis and Rhadamanthus.

Rhadamanthus is the first god to be rejected because he is most concerned with justice in the underworld and so will only be of use to you once you are dead (or knocked out of a poker tournament).

Titaness Themis is one of the three sisters of fate who’s wish was to enforce mans obedience with law and peace. Therefore I have dismissed her because if everyone played according to law and peace, no one would call a pre-flop raise with 7-2 off-suit and flop a full house.

Winners and losers would by decided by the luck of the cards and as luck evens out over the long term, the only winner would be the house. I don’t want fate taking too big a role in my poker game.

This leaves Adrasteia and Dike; Dike watches over the maintenance of justice but goes a little too far in dispensing fairness when she pierces the hearts of the unjust with the sword.

We don’t want blood spilled on the poker table, just the chips going the right way.

So Adrasteia, the goddess of divine retribution is the one I suggest you should look to when your pocket Aces are overtaken by a muppet calling a five times pre-flop raise with 7-2 off-suit. She is the most likely candidate to turn or river you the card you need to regain the hand.
